Last Spring, my program with The Evergreen State College visited Ecosta Yutu Cuii, an organization dedicated to ecological conservation and community development in the coast of Oaxaca.
My class spent almost an entire day with some of the folks at ECOSTA, learning about all the beneficial projects they have started across the coast of Oaxaca. We spent most of our time touring the farm where they breed and raise iguanas, which are endangered in the area.
These are the images from our experience.
Since its foundation in 1993, ECOSTA has been working with coastal Oaxacan communities to promote an ecological consciousness and help to conserve natural resources of the area. They also promote technological, economic, and social initiatives for the benefit of communities of varying racial and cultural backgrounds which they work with. In 21 communities across the coast of Oaxaca, men, women, children, and entire families participate in the projects and help to continue the spread of ecological consciousness that the ECOSTA programs strive to foster.
